We currently have the following volunteering opportunities available. Have a read through, and if you’d like to volunteer for something, follow the link and let our lovely Volunteer Co-ordinator know.
1:1 support for children and young people
This opportunity is primarily available to volunteers completing a relevant counselling or other professional placement with Guy’s Gift. Experienced volunteers may also be considered where they have appropriate skills and experience.
Volunteers will attend schools to provide creative 1:1 bereavement support sessions with children and young people. Sessions provide a safe space for them to explore their bereavement, express their thoughts and feelings, and develop ways of understanding and coping with what has happened.
Volunteers will receive training, guidance and ongoing support from the Guy’s Gift team and will work within our safeguarding and professional practice procedures.

Family Assessment
We’re looking for volunteers with relevant experience to support our assessment calls with families referred to Guy’s Gift. This role may suit people with experience in bereavement support, counselling, social care, education or similar settings, including counselling trainees completing a placement with us.
Volunteers will call families at an agreed time, use our assessment process to gather information about the bereavement and how the family is coping, and offer basic advice and guidance about supporting a bereaved child or young person.
Following the call, information will be passed to the Delivery Team Leader, who will review the assessment and agree the appropriate support pathway.
Full training, guidance and support will be provided. Volunteers will need good listening and communication skills, confidence discussing bereavement, and an understanding of appropriate professional boundaries.

2026 Lantern Walk
*** The date is provisional currently, but likely to be around this time***
Our annual Lantern Walk is one of the most important events in the Guy's Gift calendar, bringing bereaved families together to remember someone who has died in a safe, supportive environment.
We're looking for volunteers to help make the afternoon and evening run smoothly and create a warm welcome for every family who attends.
There are a variety of roles available, including:
Welcoming families as they arrive and helping with registration.
Helping with event set up before families arrive.
Supporting the indoor remembrance activity, including meeting and talking with families.
Helping in the refreshments area by serving drinks and refreshments to families after the walk.
Marshalling the Lantern Walk route.
Assisting with packing away and tidying up at the end of the event.
Whether you can help with one role or are happy to lend a hand wherever needed, your support will make a real difference to the experience of the families attending.
No previous experience is needed, and you'll receive a full briefing before the event.

Coventry Cathedral Abseil
Support Guy's Gift at the Coventry Cathedral Abseil by volunteering for part of the day. You'll help staff our information stand, chat with members of the public about our work supporting bereaved children and young people, and cheer on our amazing team of abseilers as they take on the challenge to raise funds for the charity.
This is also a great opportunity to help raise additional funds through donations at our collection point, and to encourage people who are interested in getting involved to find out more about volunteering with Guy's Gift.
